Destiny 2 Systems — Armor 3.0, Stats, Champions & Crafting

Armor 3.0 is the big one: stats now scale all the way to 200, tiers are gone, and every single point gives you something — so distribution actually matters again. The six stats were renamed (Weapons, Health, Class, Grenade, Super, Melee), each armor piece rolls 3 of them plus an archetype, and gear now spans Tier 1–5. Below: the new stat names, how to stun Champions, and how crafting and currencies work.

Reading the stat archetype

Every armor piece drops with 3 of the 6 stats and a stat archetype — a label telling you which stats it leans into. The archetype is the quickest way to judge a drop at a glance.

Gear now runs on a Tier 1–5 system for both armor and weapons, so a higher-tier piece is simply a better roll to chase.

Champions: stun first, then kill

Edge of Fate champion stun chart

Champions are the elite enemies that wreck under-prepared fireteams. Each type has a special ability, and stunning it shuts that ability off long enough to do real damage:

  • Barrier Champions throw up a shield. You need shield-piercing weapons to break through.
  • Overload Champions teleport and heal. Hit them with Overload effects to stun.
  • Unstoppable Champions charge in and shrug off flinch. Unstoppable effects stagger them.

The Edge of Fate update reworked the stun chart so that subclass verbs and artifact mods now stun Champions too — not just the matching weapon mods. Check the artifact each season; it changes what you have access to.

Weapon crafting

Crafting turns a good weapon into your weapon. The loop:

  1. Earn weapons with Deepsight Resonance — only craftable weapons drop with it.
  2. Extract resonance to build toward a Pattern. A Pattern usually needs resonance from 5 copies (for example, 5 Deepsight Austringers).
  3. Shape the weapon at the Enclave Relic with the perks you want, then Reshape later to change them.
  4. Level the crafted weapon to roughly Level 16 to unlock Enhanced perks.

💡 Budget for it. Shaping a weapon costs around 35,000 Glimmer and ~6 cores, and enhancing both perks runs about 67,000 Glimmer on top.

Currencies and Power

Glimmer is your main currency and caps at 250,000 — spend it freely on crafting, mods and vendors. Spoils of Conquest are raid-only tokens you earn inside raids and trade for raid loot. You’ll also pick up currencies through the Weekly Reward Pass and from Conquest and Ops activities (Solo, Fireteam, Pinnacle and Crucible).

Power Level only climbs through higher-level gear — there’s no XP shortcut. It steps up through staggered caps: soft cap → Powerful → Pinnacle. Run Powerful-reward activities until you hit the soft cap, then grind Pinnacle rewards for the last stretch. Note that Edge of Fate reset effective Power and gear, so everyone started that climb again.

Frequently asked questions

What changed with Armor 3.0 in Destiny 2?

Armor 3.0 raised the stat ceiling to 200, removed the old tier breakpoints, and made every point count. Anything past 100 in a stat grants a secondary bonus, so high investment is no longer wasted.

What are the new Destiny 2 stat names?

The six stats were renamed: Mobility is Weapons, Resilience is Health, Recovery is Class, Discipline is Grenade, Intellect is Super, and Strength is Melee. Each armor piece rolls 3 of these 6 stats plus a stat archetype.

How do I stun each Champion type?

Stunning a Champion disables its special ability. Barrier Champions need shield-piercing weapons, Overload need Overload effects, and Unstoppable need Unstoppable effects. After the Edge of Fate update, subclass verbs and artifact mods can also stun them.

How does weapon crafting work in Destiny 2?

Extract Deepsight Resonance from craftable weapons, unlock the Pattern (usually from 5 Deepsight copies), then Shape the weapon at the Enclave Relic. Level it to about 16 to unlock Enhanced perks. Only craftable weapons drop with Deepsight.

What is the Glimmer cap in Destiny 2?

Glimmer is the primary currency and caps at 250,000. Spoils of Conquest are raid-only tokens earned inside raids and used to buy raid gear.

How does Power Level work now?

Power only rises from higher-level gear, through staggered caps: soft cap, then Powerful, then Pinnacle. Run Powerful-reward activities to reach the soft cap, then chase Pinnacle rewards. Edge of Fate reset effective Power and gear.
