Destiny 2 Subclass Tier List — Prismatic & Void Hunter breakdown

How this tier list works

Two things share the word “tier” in Destiny 2 and it confuses people. Gear tiers (1–5) are an item-quality system stamped on weapons and armor. This tier list is a meta ranking — S through D, who’s strongest in the current sandbox. Different thing. We’re ranking subclasses here, not loot.

Flip the PvE / PvP / Solo toggle on the widget above before you read on. The rankings move a lot between modes, and the notes below follow the same splits.

PvE — who clears content fastest

Prismatic Warlock and Prismatic Titan are the answer to “what should I main for endgame.” Solar Warlock is the safe third pick.

S-Tier — Prismatic Warlock & Prismatic Titan. Prismatic is the whole story. Because you run Light and Darkness abilities at the same time, you get more ways to deal damage, more ways to stay alive, and more ways to clear a room than any locked single-element subclass. Warlock turns that into endless ability spam; Titan turns it into a tank that never stops punching.

S-Tier — Solar Warlock. The pre-Prismatic king, still excellent. Healing grenades and resto keep you up through anything, and Well-style support makes it a raid staple. If Prismatic feels overwhelming, start here.

A-Tier — Prismatic Hunter, Arc Titan, Void Hunter. All strong, all clear endgame fine — they just don’t trivialize it the way the S-Tier Warlock and Titan do.

PvP — who wins duels

Prismatic Hunter is the Crucible pick. Hunters own the top of PvP.

S-Tier — Prismatic Hunter. Best dueling kit, best escape kit. You pick fights on your terms and bail when they go bad. Nothing else has that much control over a 1v1.

A-Tier — Prismatic Warlock, Void Hunter. Void Hunter goes invisible to reset a losing fight, which is its own kind of broken. Prismatic Warlock holds lanes and trades well.

Solo — running dungeons alone

Hunter is the easiest solo class. Prismatic Warlock is the strongest.

New to solo content? Hunter has the most forgiving movement in the game — a normal double or triple jump you can actually steer — plus strong starter builds you can copy. Prismatic Warlock is the safer clear once you’ve got a survivability build, because its self-sustain carries you when there’s nobody to revive you.

Coming in as a new player?

Don’t overthink your first class. Hunter is the gentlest landing: the jump behaves, the starter builds are good, and you’ll spend your time learning the game instead of fighting the controls. You can always make the other two later — characters aren’t a one-time choice.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best class in Destiny 2 right now?

Prismatic Warlock and Prismatic Titan are the best classes in Destiny 2 for PvE, with Solar Warlock just behind. Prismatic wins because it mixes Light and Darkness abilities at the same time.

Why is Prismatic so strong?

Prismatic lets you run Light and Darkness abilities together on one subclass. That combo gives you more sources of damage, survivability, and add-clear than any single-element subclass.

What is the best class for beginners in Destiny 2?

Hunter is the best beginner class. It gets a normal double or triple jump that's easy to control, plus strong ready-made starter builds, so you spend less time fighting the movement.

Is Hunter good in PvP?

Yes. Prismatic Hunter is top-tier in PvP thanks to the best dueling and escape kit in the game, and Void Hunter is right behind it for going invisible to reset fights.

Which class is best for solo play?

Hunter is the easiest solo class because of its forgiving movement and strong starter builds, while Prismatic Warlock is the strongest thanks to its self-sustain in solo dungeons and lost sectors.

Does my class choice lock me out of content?

No. Every class can clear every activity in Destiny 2. The tier list shows what's easiest and strongest right now, not what's required — pick the class whose playstyle you enjoy.
