Root of Nightmares Raid Guide — How to Beat It
Root of Nightmares is the easiest modern Destiny 2 raid and a great first endgame run. It's built on Light and Dark beam mechanics — you connect nodes by element, and on the boss Nezarec you shoot his shoulder to reveal a blast while an opposite-element runner mirrors your moves. The big prize is Conditional Finality, an exotic Stasis shotgun from the final boss (it's a drop, not craftable). Full walkthrough below, with a video guide timestamped to each phase.

How to beat Root of Nightmares
Root of Nightmares is the gentlest modern raid — light mechanics, forgiving damage checks, and a great place to learn endgame without a five-hour wall. The whole raid runs on one idea: Light and Dark beams. Connect the right nodes, match the right element, and the path opens.
Encounter walkthrough
- Cataclysm — Link Light and Dark nodes in the correct sequence to charge the path forward. Assign sides so two players aren’t fighting over the same node.
- Scission — Two teams work a vertical shaft, connecting beams across the gap. Match elements correctly to power the lift and rise to the top together.
- Macrocosm (Zo’Aurc) — Sort the planets to their correct pillars to expose the boss, then burn it down between phases. Call out which pillar is wrong before the timer punishes you.
- Nezarec, Final God of Pain — Shoot Nezarec’s shoulder to reveal a blast, while a runner carrying the opposite element mirrors your moves. Coordinate the mirror, survive the room, and unload in the damage window.
The mirror is the trick on Nezarec: your runner has to match your movement with the opposite element, or the blast won’t connect.
Loot
Root of Nightmares drops raid armor and weapons across every encounter. The headline reward is Conditional Finality, an exotic Stasis shotgun from Nezarec — and it’s a drop, not craftable, so farm the final boss until it shows up.
